In the Wee Hours . . .

Last night (technically this morning at around 1:00am) I shot the below photo of Stacey, Sandra and Minnie.

We were at Sandra’s house in San Francisco to have a VERY small celebration on the actual day of her birthday.

Fear not, a real “Sandra Style” party will take place on April 5th.

my Italian History 101

Here I am (pictured below) in a photo booth image taken in Milan when I was 19-years-old.

Squeezed in next to me is my girlfriend at the time, Lisa Marie Boll and my roommate Tommy Del Santo.

I still keep in touch with Lisa but I have no idea what became of Tommy. His rather common last name has made it kind of difficult to look him up. I ran into him one more time after we had both returned from Italy. We were working in Los Angeles and I was about 23-years-old. That’s where the trail ends.

Photos tend to last longer than friendships and almost always longer than our limited stay here on the planet. Maybe someone will pick up this picture at a garage sale in fifty years and make up a better story about who they think that these three strange people were . . . stuck together for a few moments in a small booth on a cloudy November day.

Childhood Heroes . . .

I worked today on some question ideas for an upcoming radio interview (that I helped arrange) with one of my childhood heroes, Serge Nubret (pictured below).

Hero
1 a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b: an illustrious warrior c: a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d: one that shows great courage

I’ve worked with a lot of these guys now, and it always begs the question . . . How many mere mortals can even live up to definition c?

1930s German photos . . . restored to life

Many years ago I bought an entire collection of 2.25” negatives that were all shot by one photographer in Germany in the early 1930s.

I have only now acquired a scanner that can properly “capture” them.

The images constitute a really beautiful archive of period art nudes and other “beauty” photographs.

Today I received the first test print of the image below (without the black bar).

I’m not sure what I’ll do with the whole collection . . . but they’d sure make a great money-losing coffee table book.

At home with The Skunk Terrier . . .

Here’s a picture taken in the back yard today of me and Minnie (a.k.a. The Skunk Terrier).

She’s too long a story to get into right now . . . Suffice it to say that she started out as a “time share” with an old girlfriend and has now, for the last three and a half years, become a 24/7 responsibility.

The Eggs Are “Natural” . . .

A dozen hard boiled eggs are now sitting in a carton in the refrigerator. They’re in their original box and then wrapped in a layer of paper towels to keep the odor from spreading to the other food.

Stacey (pictured below in a snapshot from last week) decided to use a Martha Stewart recipe for dying Easter eggs with all-natural ingredients. She boiled up some free-range, organic, grain-fed, etc. eggs and then colored them with various concoctions made out of cabbage, spices and other “real” food dyes.

Between the smell of the boiled eggs and the cabbage, the house was an Easter stink-fest. Is the idea behind the tradition of the eggs related to reminding us of the resurrection or of the decomposition?

It Only Hurts When I Lift . . . or sleep, or . . .

The shoulder is still a problem . . .

I went to the gym today after resting it yet again for a few days and right away . . . “Ouch”!

I spoke to Ed Corney tonight and he (of the double shoulder replacement) laughed and said that he had lasted a lot longer than I have . . . At my age, he told me, he was still in the “thick of things” with his heavy lifting . . . living and training with the Governor.

OK, so it’s off to the Stairmaster in the living room . . . that won’t hurt the shoulder . . . It “gets you” by simply boring you to death.

How can it be Easter?

How can it be Easter if Passover (Jesus’ last supper) hasn’t happened yet? . . . Darn those conflicting calendars!

I shot photos of Sandra yesterday (see below) . . . We have been trying to set this up for a few years . . . and now, perhaps a bit anticlimactically, it’s done.
